Assess your Salmonella risk

Managing Salmonella disease is all about reducing risk. No dairy will ever be exempt from disease exposure, because Salmonella is sneaky. It can enter a dairy herd through a number of ways.

Research tells us not only that Salmonella is difficult to manage but that the rate of disease on dairies is increasing. A 2007 U.S. Department of Agriculture study of dairies across the country found 39.7 percent of all dairies were infected with Salmonella, nearly double the percentage of herds infected in a similar study 10 years earlier.1 In addition, the percentage of cows infected with Salmonella has more than doubled to 13.7 percent since 1996.1

You will be asked questions about on-farm hygiene, accessibility and animal health practices. Once completed, the tool provides you with a personalized Salmonella reduction plan that can be printed or emailed to your herd veterinarian. Together with your veterinarian, you can use the plan to review current protocols and management practices and establish ways to help reduce risk and build herd immunity to Salmonella.
